The moment that I started reading Haley's book, I was enchanted by the descriptive characters, thus, I couldn't wait to read the next chapter! I yearned to discover how the characters were related!
Her creative writing style intertwined the story lines, so well, that I was captivated from the very beginning. I couldn't put it down!

I had the pleasure of being one of the early readers of A Dance of Light and Shadows, and I really enjoyed it! The author has a strong grasp of language and story; it was easy to get sucked in by the narrative, and to become attached to this cast of characters. It has moments of levity, but also moments that are surprisingly dark. I loved the main character and the complexity of her relationships, romantic, platonic, and familial. It is a really well written, fresh-feeling story, and I think anyone who enjoys romantasy will enjoy this, too.

I am in love with this book!
Haley has written a story that captured my interest immediately. She allowed me to be fully immersed in the world she created. Her writing flowed so smoothly through the plot and makes you fall in love with Ivy (FMC). A mysterious island where only some women possess power and when they don't, they are banished? I feel like it's a whole new concept that I've yet to read and it was so refreshing. Staying awake until 2am reading isn't a norm for me, but I couldn't put it down! There are unexpected twists, a slow burn relationship, heartbreak, and a cliffhanger that left me begging for more.

Haley Davis’s, A Dance of Light and Shadows, had me hooked from the start! The world-building is so detailed without ever feeling overwhelming, and everything is introduced so naturally that you just fall right into the story. You can tell a lot of thought and care went into crafting this world, and it makes it feel truly alive.
Ivy is such a relatable protagonist. Her struggles, her growth, and the way she navigates relationships all feel so real. Her dynamic with Ria is one of my favorite parts. Ria brings warmth and love into Ivy’s life in a way she hasn’t really known before, and their bond adds so much depth to the story.
And then there’s Zainiel. The slow burn romance? Perfectly done. The tension, the way every interaction carries weight, the unspoken moments... everything is paced just right. The chemistry between Ivy and Zainiel builds in such a natural, satisfying way that keeps you completely invested.
Beyond the characters, the writing itself is just so good. It’s fluid and intentional, with a balance of lyrical prose and sharp dialogue. Every scene is crafted with care, from quiet, emotional moments to action-packed sequences. There’s a depth to the storytelling that makes it clear this isn’t just a book. It’s the foundation of something truly epic.
If you love books with intricate world-building, complex characters, and writing that pulls you in from the first page, this is one you don’t want to miss. I can’t wait to see where this series goes next!

Haley Davis, along with her husband, two children, and pets, calls the coast of North Carolina home. She enjoys surrounding herself with friends and family. Haley has always been captivated by reading and writing, but it wasn't until she had her second child that she decided to take the leap and write her own story.
A Dance of Light and Shadows is her debut novel, and the sequel is already in the works. She has poured not only her heart and soul into this book but also her hopes and dreams. It explores themes of found family, hidden heritage, and a slow burn that'll have readers kicking and screaming. She loves bringing others into the worlds she creates and seeing the joy it brings them.
